It was also called "Basilica del beato Felice" because was built by pope St Felix IV in 527 in a hall of the Foro della Pace. The church was dedicated to two brothers from Cilicia who were miraculous healers. The church was completely reconstructed in 1632 by design of Luigi Arrigucci and by order of Urban VIII, who's coat-of-arm can be seen on the ceiling. The beautiful apse mosaics remained nearly untouched. They represent Jesus with the saints and pope Felix who shows the model of the church.  In the hall of the church all the year round the grandiose Presepio napoletano is located, it was presented in 1939 by a Neapolitan family to the Franciscan order to which care the church was entrusted. The models and figures in wood, terracotta, and porcelain are of exceptionally fine workmanship.
On the wall of the convent of SS.Cosma e Damiano was attached a marble map of Rome (Forma Urbis), a fundamental document for the knowledge of classic Rome.
